Participation of the FeMin collective at the FemArt Festival in Pristina: “SISTERHOOD: In Times of War and Peace”

From September 25 to 30, 2024, we had the opportunity to attend the twelfth edition FemArtFestival in Pristina, called “SISTERHOOD: In Times of War and Peace.”Together with the girls from the Alternative Center for Girls, as part of the Feminist Spring School organized by this center and Artpolis from Pristina, we explored the role of feminism in creating peace and reconciliation.

The FemArt Festival was imbued with art forms, which through performances, concerts and film screenings, portrayed the female perspective in times of conflict and peace. Through the workshops, we met stories of resistance, struggle, courage and solidarity among women. These stories shed light on the importance of sisterhood, not only as an idea, but as a living factor that facilitates the survival of women in times of war conflicts.

As we listened to these stories, there was no shortage of laughter or tears. There were moments of deep vulnerability, but also of immense strength. The hugs reminded that, despite different experiences and contexts, women around the world share a common struggle. FemArt is a reminder that love, in all its forms, is the foundation of change and that in every challenge, feminism offers space to create a better and fairer world.

By participating in the festival, we are empowered not only as activists, but also as a community that believes in the importance of women in the peace-building process. The FemArt Festival inspired us to return to our daily lives with fresh ideas, filled with love and determination to continue building sisterhood and solidarity — both in war and in peace.
