Gender violence is not a private problem!
Gender-based violence is any harmful act committed against any person based on socially attributed/gender differences between men and women.
It includes acts of causing physical, sexual or mental harm or suffering or threats to such acts, as well as other forms of deprivation of liberty.
It arises from the unequal power relations between men and women and the consequent discrimination against women. It can affect both women and men, but women and girls are disproportionately more affected by this type of violence.
The risk of gender-based violence against women and girls increases further in times of crisis. Some women and girls are at higher risk, such as people with disabilities and those from the LGBTI+ community.
